St. Louis, MO – Governor Matt Blunt plans to appoint Carol Wilson to chair the St. Louis Election Board.

Wilson used to sit on the board and would replace Kimmy Mathis, who recently resigned after a few months on the job.

The move was being noted in political circles because Wilson lives in state Senator Jeff Smith's district and would need Smith's support to get the job. During this year's campaign Wilson crossed party lines to support one of Smith's Democratic opponents, Derio Gambaro.

Smith has already blocked a recent Blunt pick for the state Board of Education. But the St. Louis Democrat said Wednesday he plans to support Wilson's appointment.

Wilson, a realtor who is married to St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson, was first named to the Election Board by Gov. Bob Holden but stepped down to run for 16th Ward Alderman in 2003. She lost that race to Donna Baringer.
