Chicago, Ill. – Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's office said Monday night it will pay legal fees it owes in a lawsuit over violent video-game sales by late January.
Lawyers for Blagojevich and Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed documents in federal court in Chicago indicating it would pay the $520,000 legal bill out of unspent funds from several agencies under the governor's control.
They say it will be paid by about January 20th.
The video industry sued Blagojevich last year over a law he signed making it a crime to sell violent or sexually explicit video games to minors. A federal judge ruled the law unconstitutional and stuck Blagojevich with the industry's legal bill.
That was in August. The industry went back to court to force payment and the judge gave Blagojevich until Monday to develop a payment plan. He will rule on the proposal Wednesday.
