Jefferson City, MO. – School groups around the state are uniting in their opposition to Governor Matt Blunt's appointment to the Missouri Board of Education.
In October Blunt named Donayle Whitmore-Smith of St. Louis to the state board.
Groups representing teachers, administrators, school boards and parents are fighting it. She must be confirmed by the Senate, but she has already attended one board meeting in November.
Whitmore-Smith runs School Choice Missouri and led a rally at the Capitol for failed legislation that would have provided tax breaks to help students attend private schools.
But she says people should focus on children, not her background, and says she would not do anything to harm public schools
