St. Louis – St. Louis County has received another $500,000 dollars from the U.S. EPA to help redevelop sites contaminated with hazardous waste.
The County Economic Council will use the money to give low-interest loans to developers.
County Executive Charlie Dooley said rebuilding on sites known as brownfields is important to St. Louis County's future.
"This is mostly a built out county," Dooley said. "We've got to rediscover ourselves. With the help of the EPA, we're making a difference in all of our lives."
A previous allotment of EPA money has been used to clean up asbestos and other contaminants at the old River Roads Mall in Jennings.
Pyramid Construction is redeveloping the mall into a site which will include a senior center, single family homes and a new city hall for Jennings.
