St. Louis Election Board calls for judges

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – The St. Louis Election Board is trying a new tactic to get city residents to be election judges.... calling them.

A few thousand automated phone calls will go out in the next few days asking people to work at polling places on Election Day.

Election director Scott Leiendecker says he doesn't think any other election office in the area makes automated phone calls... and he's been pleased so far...

"We expected if we got 100 people that would outstanding," Leiendecker said. "And we've received in three days of doing it we've received more than 200 people. So we're going to continue it for a few more days to get our numbers up there."

Judges are paid between $89 and $225 for their time.
