Robert Carnahan, brother of late Gov. Mel Carnahan, dies

Rolla, Mo. – The older brother of the late Governor Mel Carnahan died early Saturday morning of congestive heart failure. Robert Carnahan was 80.

He was the late governor's only sibling, eight years older than Mel. Robert owned a real estate company in Rolla, was president of the state's association of Realtors in 1979, and retired in 1985.

Ioma and Robert Carnahan were married 59 years.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Rolla, at Christ Episcopal Church.
