St. Louis, MO. – The St. Louis Public Schools failed to meet state performance goals this year, which could put the district at risk of becoming unaccredited.
Standardized test scores show more middle and high school students scored in the top two proficiency levels in math and communication arts.
But those scores dropped significantly among 3rd and 4th graders. The data is only preliminary and deputy education commissioner Bert Schulte says it will receive more scrutiny:
"Certainly the department will be looking at the results in detail over the next few weeks, and once the results become final we will certainly be looking at that and trying to make a determination about if there is an impact on the accreditation status," Schulte said.
The state will issue a preliminary annual performance report for the St. Louis district later this month.
