Planned Parenthood STL office will offer cervical cancer vaccine

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The approval of Gardasil - the first vaccine ever developed to prevent the HPV cancer virus - is widely viewed as a medical moon landing.

It's approved for girls and women between age nine and 26.

Planned Parenthood of St. Louis CEO Paula Gianino says her office will offer the vaccine as soon as possible perhaps as early as this fall.

"And we hope that all parents of young daughters will be educated about the new vaccine, and we urge all parents to think carefully about getting their daughter vaccinated," Gianino said.

Some social conservative groups say immunizing young children might encourage early sexual activity.
