St. Louis, MO. – Washington University will rename its main campus to honor longtime chancellor William Danforth and his family.
The campus that houses six of the university's seven schools has long been called the Hilltop Campus.
An official recognition ceremony for the name change to the Danforth Campus is planned for September 17th, when the change will take effect.
William Danforth, who turns 80 in April, became chancellor in 1971. He is the brother of longtime Republican Senator John Danforth of St. Louis.
The recognition also honors the Danforth family and the Danforth Foundation for financial support.
