St. Louis, MO – St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch says he'll wait for the FBI to complete its investigation before deciding whether to file charges against a man whose forceful arrest was seen on live television.
McCulloch's office says Maplewood police are expected to ask for formal charges soon against Edmon Burns, 33, of St. Louis.
The FBI, though, is looking into how police subdued Burns after a chase that began in Maplewood and ended in St. Louis City. It happened Jan. 30.
Live TV showed officers punching and kicking the suspect, but video did not clearly show his level of resistance.
Some people have defended how the three Maplewood and one City officers handled the arrest, but others have called for the men to be fired and prosecuted for police brutality.
