Jefferson City, MO. – House Republicans have unveiled their own plan for spending money from the proposed sale of assets from Missouri's college loan authority.

They propose spending less money on college building projects and more on scholarships than originally outlined by Governor Matt Blunt.

Republican House member Doug Ervin co-sponsored the proposal. He says they want to create one of the biggest endowments in the country for student scholarships.

"We're really taking a huge step in insuring that students in Missouri that are seeking to go to college are going to have an easier path to get there," Ervin said.

The proposed loan sale is expected to generate about $450 million for the state.

Governor Blunt had proposed setting aside $100 million for scholarships. But House Republicans want to raise that to $190 million.
