Jefferson City, MO – Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is encouraging Missouri state Senators to overhaul the state's health system.
Speaking from the Senate chamber dais, a somewhat rare occurrence in itself, Gingrich said the Missouri Senate must take a long-term approach that focuses on healthy habits and preventative care instead of crisis treatment.
Gingrich was speaking in his role with the Center for Health Transformation, a group he founded that advocates more individual responsibility, technology and the availability of health care coverage to all.
Republican lawmakers and Governor Matt Blunt are exploring a similar revamping for Missouri's Medicaid program for the poor and the state's health care system in general.
Gingrich was invited speak Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons (R-Kirkwood).
