Maryville, Ill. – Former Illinois state Representative Monroe Flinn died Tuesday in the Metro-East town of Maryville.
He was 87.
Flinn served for 24 years in the Illinois House of Representatives. Current State Representative Thomas Holbrook told the Belleville News-Democrat in a 2001 interview that Flinn earned respect from members of both parties because of his honesty and loyalty to residents of his district.
Flinn was a Democrat who retired in 1995. He also played an active role in reshaping the Illinois Constitution in 1970, when he served as a director of the state Constitutional Convention.
