St. Louis, MO. – Missouri State Senator Maida Coleman said Tuesday she's running for State Auditor.
The St. Louis Democrat is Senate Minority Leader. She hopes to replace Claire McCaskill, who's running for the U.S. Senate.
Coleman filed for personal bankruptcy in 1998. She also lacks accounting experience.
But she says she DOES have the leadership skills necessary for the job.
My role as auditor will be similar to my role as minority leader-I lead, Coleman said. And believe it or not, I'm a quick learner. I didn't just walk off the street and get elected to office and not be able to figure things out.
Coleman will face Democrat Susan Montee of St. Joseph in the August primary.
Republican State Senator John Loudon is also in the auditor's race.
