Katrina victims can get free legal help Saturday

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – Victims of Hurricane Katrina who have relocated to the St. Louis area will have access to free legal assistance tomorrow.

The St. Louis University Legal Clinic, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and other groups are offering the help to the evacuees.

St. Louis University spokesman John Ammann said there may be a number of issues that the evacuees are dealing with since arriving in the area.

"Somebody may have gotten pulled over for a traffic ticket and maybe they didn't have a license with them because their license was lost in New Orleans and we're going to help them navigate getting a Missouri license and that sort of thing," Ammann said.

Ammann said proof of residence from an affected area will be required for the event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon in the Atrium of St. Louis University School of Law.
