Jefferson City, MO – The state of Missouri plans to privatize some inspection jobs at the Department of Natural Resources. DNR staff will no longer inspect underground storage tanks.
Director Doyle Childers wants to use private companies to do that to save the state money, possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars.
But groups like the Missouri Coalition for the Environment say privatizing could make it harder to tell whether inspectors are doing their jobs correctly.
