Jefferson City, MO. – One of the many recommendations a commission has made to revamp Missouri state government is to change how governments give public notice of their construction projects.
Thge recommendation is to increase the cost of the project that would trigger such requirements. The cost of the projects that have to be publicly advertised would be quadrupled under the proposal. The suggestion also would end a requirement that the projects be advertised in the state's largest newspapers.
Governor Matt Blunt's Government Review Commission has endorsed the idea, suggesting the current requirements add to the cost of construction projects.
Under current law, a government construction project costing at least $25,000 must be advertised in a newspaper in the county where the project is located. That project must also be advertised in two newspapers in Missouri that have a circulation of at least 50,000 people.
