St. Louis, MO. – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's office is getting more money for salaries.

The Estimate Board voted Wednesday to give the office $60,000.

Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce had asked for $123,000, saying city prosecutors are leaving for higher-paying jobs.

Board of Alderman President and Estimate Board member Jim Shrewsbury says they did what they could.

"We have to recognize that her staff is overworked and underpaid, but so are all city employees," Shrewsbury said. "So I think this was a reasonable compromise. It was half the money she requested."

Shrewsbury says $60,000 will come from vacancies in the Circuit Attorney's office. In the past, the unspent funds have gone straight to General Revenue.

Mayor Francis Slay and Comptroller Darlene Green also voted in favor of the move.
