The Catholic Church has a rich heritage in the St. Louis area, and one of its oldest strongholds is in the city of Florissant.
That's where archaeologists are looking for the remnants of the original St. Ferdinand parish church.
The dig is the first excavation on the Missouri side of metro St. Louis to study the French colonial era.
KWMU's Kevin Lavery prepared this report, which can be heard by clicking the 'listen' icon above.
