'Dr. Feel Good' Convicted of Illegal Prescribing

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – A man refered to by a federal prosecutor as "Dr. Feel Good" has been convicted of nearly 200 counts, for trying to dispense more than 2.5 million doses of prescription drugs.

The seven-day trial of Harry Meyer Katz, of Dittmer, ended Monday with his conviction of 176 felony counts of illegal distribution of prescription controlled substances. Katz, 79, now faces up to five years in prison; he'll be sentenced June 10.

U.S. Attorney James Martin says Katz illegally wrote prescriptions for $40 each for Vicodin, Darvocet, Zanax and Valuim. Investigators say the drugs were not for legitimate medical use.

During his trial, Katz denied wrongdoing, saying he prescribed low doses of drugs that were not addictive.
