Schools Playing a Role in STL Mayor's Race

St. Louis, MO –

The race for St. Louis Mayor has focused a lot on education, even though the mayor has no direct power over the schools. The School Board runs the district.

Mayor Francis Slay supported four school board members who were elected as a slate two years ago and who now are a majority. Slay also appointed a fifth board member last year when there was a vacancy.

But he's been criticized by his two Democratic challengers for his support for the board majority.
