St. Louis, MO. – A new grocery store in St. Louis is giving business leaders new hope for the city's downtown revitalization.
Mayor Francis Slay presented a business award Wednesday to City Grocers, a part grocery, part restaurant.
Officials say the store is positioned to serve office workers, loft residents and visitors.
Downtown St. Louis Partnership board member Michael West says the grocery could be a lynchpin for other services.
"I've heard so often people say that they couldn't walk to a grocery store, or couldn't get basic goods and services," West said. "I think this now provides that, and I think at the end of the day, a lot of those additive services will be coming back."
The grocery is located in the Old Post Office district, which itself is being converted to house additional business space.
