Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt will not head to South Dakota next week after all.
He was initially listed to take part in a summit on how to manage the Missouri River, but will instead send a representative.
The governors of Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and Nebraska are scheduled to attend.
Upstream states want more water kept there to allow for recreation. Downstream states like Missouri say they need more water so barges can move about.
The Army Corps of Engineers recently announced its annual operating plan for the river. But South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds is calling for changes in the plan, including a reduction in flows from dams upstream. Rounds says the reduction would provide more water for a variety of uses up and down the Missouri.
