Chicago, Ill. – The Illinois State Police has named someone to be temporarily in charge of Gov. Rod Blagojevich's security detail.
State Police Captain Scott Giles will now head the security unit. He is a 20-year veteran, having served four years on Gov. Jim Thompson's security staff.
Blagojevich announced plans last week to cut his security staff and require them to get training from the U.S. Secret Service. The changes came after reports on a Chicago TV station raised questions about the conduct of some of his bodyguards and the number of them used on out-of-state trips.
State Police spokesman Lieutenant Lincoln Hampton says 40% of the officers on Blagojevich's security detail have been reassigned to other duties, such as highway patrols and investigations.
