Haas Won't Get Special Prosecutor

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – A St. Louis circuit judge has ruled against city school board member Bill Haas in a case revolving around a heated board meeting last month.

Haas had claimed political bias had kept St. Louis circuit attorney Jennifer Joyce from investigating an altercation between several school board members.

He asked Judge David L. Dowd to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate.

The judge ruled that Haas lacked evidence to support his claim against Joyce and denied his request for a prosecutor.

For his part, Haas says he's not planning to appeal. "It's over," Haas said. "We had our day in court. I'm real proud of the way I presented the issues we thought were important, and I'm prepared to move on."

Joyce says she hopes the ruling will allow all parties involved to refocus on improving the education of city schoolchildren.
