ST. Louis, MO – A corporate jet disappeared from radar Tuesday night just after taking off from Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield.
Crews found the wreckage early Wednesday morning on Howell Island, in the Missouri River.
There's no word on whose plane it was or who the two men on board were.
Elizabeth Isham Cory, of the Federal Aviation Administration, said the twin-engine jet left the airport about 8:15 p.m. bound for Toledo, Ohio. It was flying under instrument rules and disappeared from radar shortly after taking off.
McGuire says the only access to the crash site on the island is by boat, made difficult by high water, fast current and low visibility.
