St. Louis – Emergency responders found two toddlers dead Monday, submerged in mud along a Mississippi riverbank.
St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa says police received a call around 3:20 Monday afternoon. He says responders found two children dead on the riverbank in the mud, one face down and one face up.
Mokwa said the children were a 1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl.
They were found in North Riverfront Park, south of the Chain of Rocks Bridge.
Their father's car was near a boat ramp, used to drop small crafts into the water.
The father was picked up by police near a relative's house in St. Louis County, about two miles from the scene, and hospitalized for observation.
Mokwa said police were investigating the incident as a homicide but have no motive.
