St. Louis – A citizens group that's trying to put four changes to the St. Louis city charter on the November ballot filed suit Thursday against the city election board.
On June 10, the group Empower St. Louis submitted tens of thousands of signatures in support of four proposed charter changes.
But city election commissioners missed a 10-day deadline to certify the names and send them to the Board of Aldermen.
The group's Marit Clark says they're filing a "friendly lawsuit" to ensure all four items get on the November ballot.
"You know, we talked to them and said, 'we expect these to be done in 10 days, and we expect you to take whatever measures you need to get it done,'" Clark said. "They should have been done, and they weren't."
The St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners says it will put all four measures on the ballot provided city lawmakers can meet a 60-day deadline to return the ballot items to its office.
