St. Louis – The St. Louis County Council Tuesday night affirmed its intentions to use tax money from a proposed South County casino to help fund schools.
Council members passed a resolution promising to set up a casino funded foundation that would primarily benefit the Hancock Place School District.
Councilman John Campisi says the resolution is an important first step even though it's non-binding.
"I believe in getting all the i's dotted and the t's crossed before we go forward with anything. It's just being in business as long as I have; that means you have to have everything in writing before you go forward. Cause that makes it that much easier for someone to back out if they wanted to," Campisi said.
The Council also passed an ordinance favoring the proposal by Pinnacle Entertainment to build a gaming facility in Lemay. That ordinance needs one more vote.
Any decision over a new casino is up to the Missouri Gaming Commission, which could make that choice early next month.
