St. Peters – Officials are investigating why a vintage airplane crashed this weekend in St. Peters, killing two men.
The two-seater took off from Creve Coeur on Saturday. When the plane did not return, the airport notified police.
A helicopter found the wreckage Sunday, in a field six miles north of St. Peters.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
61-year-old Ewell "Bud" Dake, of Ferguson, and his friend, 76-year-old Kenny Love of Crete, Illinois, were pronounced dead at the scene. Dake's sister-in-law, Linda Nieland, said he had been flying for 38 years as a hobby, and loved antique planes.
