Chicago – Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich today said he wants to spend $2.2 billion over four years for school construction and upkeep.
The money is part of his capital development plan, which he will unveil to the Legislature Tuesday.
Blagojevich says the funding would start with $550 million in the next fiscal year.
He says that despite a sluggish economy, the state still needs to build new schools and repair old classrooms.
Blagojevich flew around Illinois Monday to promote the plan. That included a stop in the Metro East.
