Jefferson City, MO – The Secretary of State's office is looking for possible locations in St. Louis to house state archives.
Webster Groves Republican Kathlyn Fares is sponsoring legislation to establish a private trust fund that would pay for the facility. It would be in addition to the state's archive office in Jefferson City.
"We have archives in Jefferson City; we do not have the space to handle all the materials that are beginning to become available," Fares said.
She says the St. Louis office would mean documents that originate in the area, like Lewis and Clark papers or old court records, could stay in the area.
The legislation could go before a House Committee next week.
