Washington – Missouri members of Congress are asking the U.S. Department of Education to reconsider cuts of more than $9 million in support for Missouri schools.
The cuts are based on child poverty estimates, which decide how federal No Child Left Behind dollars are disbursed.
The bi-partisan congressional delegation says the proposed cuts, set to begin on July 1, would affect more than 7,000 school districts nationwide.
Seven of the nine Missouri members of the U.S. House wrote to Education Secretary Rod Paige last week, arguing that the nearly four-year-old child poverty information is outdated and unreliable.
