St. Louis, Mo. – A local aerospace expert says Boeing's St. Louis plant is in a strong position despite recent shakeups in the company's executive roster.
Monday, Boeing CEO Phil Condit announced his resignation in the wake of a scandal involving a 767 tanker contract with the Air Force. The move comes one week after Boeing fired its chief financial officer.
Paul Czysz, professor emeritus of aerospace engineering at St. Louis University, says the diversity of the St. Louis military assembly line puts it in good shape for the future.
"It's the one part of Boeing that's making substantial profit on the military side. But with Airbus being the competitor it's being - it now has over 50 percent of the market - I think the commercial side is in probably some fairly deep water," Czysz said.
Boeing is the St. Louis region's largest manufacturing company, with 15,300 employees.
