Anaheim, Ca. – The gun believed to have been used to kill Missouri outlaw Jesse James was sold at an auction in California Tuesday for $350,000.
An anonymous bidder bought the .44 caliber Smith and Wesson that Bob Ford used. Ford was a late recruit to James' gang; he killed the outlaw in St. Joseph, Mo. on April 3, 1882.
Officials with Little John's Antique Arms in Anaheim, Cal. say the absentee bidder asked not to be named. But company spokesman Brian Maize says he believes the gun may have been purchased by someone in Texas.
Little John's owner John Gangel acquired the gun about six months ago from a collector who bought it for $160,000 at a 1993 auction in England.
