St. Louis, MO – Democratic presidential candidate Al Sharpton might return to St. Louis, but this time to protest the city's schools. It would be his third visit in six weeks.
Organizers say he'll be in rallies Sunday night and Monday morning to support efforts by parents trying to keep children home on the first day of school. The parents are upset at the district's move to close 16 schools and cut 1,400 jobs.
Earl Nance, of the St. Louis Clergy Coalition, says Sharpton is trying to make a civil rights issue when there is none.
Sharpton was last here this summer to protest what he called Metrolink's lack of minority-owned businesses being hired to extend the light rail to Shrewsbury.
