St. Louis, MO. –

A 1986 study by Actors Equity, a union representing stage performers, found that 90% of hired actors were white.

The study has yet to be updated, but most in the stage and film business acknowledge the situation isn't much better today. And the lack of racial diversity doesn't stop there; it's backstage, in management and extends to the audience.

With that in mind tonight a symposium on racial diversity in the local theatre will be held. KWMU's Hillary Wicai prepared this preview.

Note: The racial diversity symposium for local theatre takes place Monday at 7:00 PM at the Grandel Theatre at 634 N. Grand Blvd.
