Edwardsville, Ill. – Southern Illinois University's Board of Trustees has voted to remove a tuition discount at the Edwardsville campus.
Students who currently take more than 12 hours of classes are charged less for those extra hours. Edwardsville Chancellor David Werner says the discount really didn't mean much in the past when the campus was mostly part-time students
"But we've had increasingly more full-time students in recent years as we've added residence halls," Werner said. "So this discount has been more difficult for the university to fund because we've had more and more students taking over 12 hours, and it just reached a point where it wasn't really feasible to maintain that kind of discount."
The school had planned to make a gradual move into full-charges, but Werner says this year's budget problems forced quicker action. The change takes effect this fall.
