House Springs, MO – A mulch fire burning in Jefferson County since April 17th may be extinguished by the end of this week; and the county doesn't have to pick up the tab.
On Friday, the state of Missouri permitted an excavating company to use earth-moving equipment to help extinguish the fire in House Springs.
The company is providing the service for free. If left alone, the mulch fire could have taken as long as a year to burn itself
out.
Meanwhile, fire officials discovered steam coming from another two-acre mulch pile about 150 feet away from the original site.
