St. Louis, Mo. – Friday is the final deadline for male visitors 16 and older from several Muslim and Arab countries to register with US immigration officials.
Temporary visitors must get photographed and fingerprinted or face deportation.
The ACLU opposes the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System. Attorney Denise Lieberman says the group has been helping people registering in St. Louis.
"We've trained people to serve as legal observers, and they've been stationed down at the INS offices at each of the monthly deadlines to observe, to make sure that the process has been going smoothly, and to give people information about their rights," Lieberman said.
The measure is part of the Patriot Act Congress passed last year in response to the September 11th attacks.
