St. Louis, MO – The Missouri Chamber of Commerce says the economic troubles affecting the airline industry could have a devastating impact on the state.
The Chamber has sent letters to Missouri's congressional delegation this week, asking them to support proposals that would give the ailing airlines more than 3 billion-dollars in aid. Chamber President Dan Mehan says he hopes lawmakers will take action soon.
Aviation in this country and in this state is vital to our economic well-being," Mehan said.
American Airlines says it is losing millions of dollars a day and is seeking concessions from its labor unions, which could result in hundreds more St. Louis layoffs.
