St. Louis, MO – The busiest mailing day of the year is today, December 16th.
The U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis says it expects to handle more than three million pieces of mail at the region's processing and distribution center; nearly three times the normal Monday volume.
Spokeswoman Carol Miller says that's probably because Thanksgiving fell so late in November this year, and that people are waiting longer to mail out Christmas packages.
The postal service considers the holiday mailing period to run from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas. In that period, the agency expects to handle about 20 billion pieces of mail nationwide.
