Jefferson City, MO – A new stateort says more than one-fifth of Missourians age nine through 18 are overweight.
The report comes from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The agency says 22.7 percent of Missouri's youth are overweight, up from 18.6 percent two years earlier.
The numbers reflect statistics on more than 14,000 youth who attended schools taking part in a state health services program in the 2000-2001 school year.
The report also says young Missourians typically eat less than the federally recommended servings of meat, grains and vegetables.
