St. Louis, MO – After campaigning in Illinois yesterday, President Bush will spend part of the final campaigning stretch in Missouri.
Bush will stump for GOP Senate hopeful Jim Talent today at the Family Arena in St. Charles. It will be the President's fifth stop in Missouri this campaign season.
The President is just one of a number of big name campaigners. Singer Sheryl Crow, a Missouri native, has campaigned for Jean Carnahan.
New polls in the race continue to show a very tight race between Carnahan and Talent.
The two are essentially tied, with one poll showing Talent slightly ahead and the other with the candidates dead even.
Talent is ahead of the Democratic senator in a CNN/USA Today-Gallup poll 48% to 44%. But the margin of error in that poll was plus or minus four percentage points and 8% percent were undecided or favoring other candidates, making the race a statistical tie. The poll of 604 likely voters was done from Wednesday through Saturday.
A Zogby International poll for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has both candidates with about 46 percent. Talent had 45.8%, Carnahan had 45.6%. The Zogby poll of 800 likely voters was done from Wednesday through Friday. It found 6% undecided, and less then 2% favoring a third-party candidate.
