St. Louis – A St. Louis policeman is recovering from a gunshot wound and two suspects are being sought after a late-night undercover operation erupted in gunfire.
Police chief Dan Isom said two officers were on patrol around 11 p.m. Sunday near Chouteau and Boyle on the city's south side when they encountered two people who appeared to be armed.
Isom said the suspects fired several shots, hitting one officer in the shoulder; bullet fragments also struck near his eye.
The chief said the officers were not able to return fire, and the suspects escaped.
He said the wounded officer has been on the force for more than three years and is expected to recover fully.
