By Adam Allington, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Public School District named the top three candidates to fill the post left by outgoing superintendent Diana Bourisaw.

The new superintendent will be the seventh person to hold the job in five years.

The candidates are:

*Donnie Evans, former Superintendent of Providence City Public Schools in Rhode Island.

*Eric Becoats Co-Interim Superintendent for Guilford County Schools in Greensboro, North Carolina.

*Kelvin Adams, current Chief of Staff for the Recovery School District in New Orleans.

The candidates will field questions from the public at 5:30 on Tuesday at Vashon High School.

Melanie Adams is one of three members of the transitional school board which oversees the district.

"We wanted someone with some longevity, in the sense that they'd been in the position for awhile and was able to make changes over a period of time," says Adams

The top candidates were chosen form a pool of over 30 applicants. The board is asking for a three-year time commitment.
