Hazelwood approves plan for Ford plant site; school leader says tax break will hurt

By AP/KWMU

Hazelwood, Mo. – The city of Hazelwood has signed off on a plan to redevelop the old Ford plant into a commercial and industrial site. Mayor T.R. Carr said it will create jobs and generate revenue for the city.

The redevelopment plan calls for tax incentives over 25 years to Panattoni Development. But Hazelwood School District Superintendent Chris Wright said the deal is too generous.

Wright said it will be more than 30 years before the district receives the same revenue it got from the Ford plant before it closed.

Ford shut down the plant in 2006 as part of a corporate restructuring plan.
