St. Louis – A St. Louis County tax reform group will be watching closely Monday as a property tax task force hands over its recommendations to the Missouri house speaker.
St. Louis County Tax Relief Now gathered more than 3,000 signatures for tax reform and helped bring the issue to the forefront.
In August House Speaker Rod Jetton put together a 17-member task force to look into property tax rates.
He has said the recommendations should be crafted into legislation for tax reform.
Sarah Haenni is with St. Louis County Tax Relief Now. She said they're hopeful something will come of those recommendations.
"Because if it doesn't happen, honestly, people like me are done."
Haenni said if lawmakers cannot offer tax relief she would like to see a petition for a state ballot initiative to cap how much assessments can go up per year.
She says there's also been talk of a class action lawsuit against the state.
