St. Louis, MO – Before the I-64 shutdown in January prepare for the westbound lanes of the highway to be closed for two weekends in December.
The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to completely shut down the westbound lanes of the Daniel Boone Bridge connecting St. Louis and St. Charles Counties on December 1st and 2nd and again on December 8th and 9th.
District engineer Ed Hassinger says problems were found with the bridge during inspections this summer. "We found some corrosion and some things that we want to take care of so we're going to be replacing some of the structural steel members purely as a routine maintenance item. You know the bridge has never been in any jeopardy, it's just part of our inspection and maintenance program we need to do this work."
The portion of the Boone Bridge that will be worked on -- which is a separate structure from the eastbound lanes -- is 72-years-old.
