Raccoon captured at the Missouri Governor's Mansion

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

10/5/07 – There was a bit of a stir Thursday night at the Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City. Governor Matt Blunt says a raccoon was discovered on the roof.

"People were on the, obviously the roof for all of the inspections of the building and that sort of thing, and they noticed that somebody appeared to have used some wood to build a little hut up there...he seemed to have moved in...he was pretty comfortable...he's made himself at home," Blunt said.

Workers captured the raccoon and placed it in a steel cage.

There was discussion of executing the furry squatter. Instead, Blunt says it will be released into the wild at one of Missouri's state parks.
